Reports in France claim Didier Deschamps is under consideration at Manchester United if they do decide to sack Michael Carrick.
Although Manchester United pledged to give Michael Carrick more time to turn things around, uncertainty still exists over the 45-year-old’s future at Old Trafford. Since the last vote of ‘confidence’, the Reds lost to Chelsea and beat Roma in the Champions League.
Let's talk Manchester United RELEGATION
The 3-2 comeback victory over Roma was United’s first win in nine matches across all competitions. That explains why Carrick’s side are hovering just above the relegation zone (17th) in the Premier League after nine matches.
All eyes are on United now to see if they can make it back-to-back wins when they host Aston Villa on Sunday. Anything less than three points could create a media storm just in time for the November international break, with a new head coach candidate emerging this week.

According to Foot Mercato, United are looking at former France manager Didier Deschamps as Carrick hangs on to his job by a thread. The 58-year-old spent 14 years as his nation’s manager and guided Les Bleus to World Cup success in 2018.
Deschamps made a name for himself as a coach with Monaco, Juventus and Marseille. He achieved promotion from Serie B at Juventus following their match-fixing scandal, won Ligue 1 with Marseille and led Monaco to the 2004 Champions League final before losing to Jose Mourinho’s FC Porto.
In terms of Premier League experience, Deschamps spent a season at Chelsea towards the end of his career in 1999/00, but it doesn’t sound like the available coach is keen on the United job. The report states that the Reds contacted Deschamps in recent days, but they have not come to a conclusion on their preferred choice if Carrick is removed from his position.
Deschamps was on Real Madrid’s shortlist in the summer before they hired Mourinho. That said, Foot Mercato believes an offer from Madrid could see him return to management. This suggests that Ineos might not find it easy to find a top manager keen to take on the workload at United, which would consist of working with a board that is being scrutinised at the moment.
It would be an exciting appointment for Leny Yoro, who is the only French member of the first team right now. The centre-back made his senior debut for France under Deschamps’ successor, Zinedine Zidane, during the previous international break.
