Burnley appoint Diego López as new Chief Football Officer

López will take responsibility for the club's football operations, recruitment strategy and overall sporting structure as Burnley looks to build on its long-term vision both on and off the pitch.

The 37-year-old Spaniard arrives from Italian side Genoa, where he served as Chief of Football.

He joins with a strong reputation for talent identification, player development and building successful football structures within elite environments.

Burnley chairman Alan Pace believes López is the ideal candidate to help drive the club forward.

"This appointment is about elevating standards throughout the football club," Pace told the club website.

"We were looking for someone with extensive experience in recruitment and player development, a deep understanding of European football markets and the ability to integrate those elements into a sustainable long-term strategy.

"Diego's track record speaks for itself and demonstrates the qualities we believe are essential for the next stage of Burnley Football Club's development."

López expressed his excitement at taking on the role and outlined his ambitions for the future.

"I am incredibly excited to join Burnley Football Club and begin working to unlock the enormous potential that exists here," he said.

"I understand the vision for the club and firmly believe in what Burnley can achieve in the years ahead if everyone moves forward together with complete commitment and determination.

"From my earliest conversations with Alan, it was clear there is genuine ambition and a clear plan to support it."

López also highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong connection between the club and its supporters.

"This football club means so much to the town and the people who support it," he added.

"I want fans to see their identity reflected in the team, through the way we play, the players we bring to the club and the standards we represent.

The work begins immediately."
