Expect another week without David Montgomery for the Houston Texans' offense.
Expect another week without David Montgomery.
According to KPRC 2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Houston Texans Pro Bowl running back is not expected to play on Sunday against the New York Giants as he's still recovering from a groin injury.
Montgomery, who was expected to be the top running back for Houston after being traded this offseason from Detroit, hasn't played since the Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans after leaving in the first quarter.
In Montgomery’s absence, last year’s leading rusher, Woody Marks, stepped in. Marks found some success on the ground with 62 rushing yards and an average of 4.1 yards per carry. This season, he's totaled 205 yards and two touchdowns.
Since rushing for 60 yards and two scores against Buffalo, Montgomery has totaled 78 yards on 32 carries and hasn’t found the end zone since Week 1. This week, Montgomery won't be the only running back out, as Jawhar Jordan was placed on the injured reserve following an injury suffered in the win over the Jaguars.
The expectation is for Houston to call up former Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn to pair alongside Dare Ogunbowale.
"Woody will get a good amount of carries. We've got faith in Dare," Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley said. "It's like he was just here. He was just here, but it's like he hadn't left, I should say is the better way to say it. There's nothing that we have that he's not able to function and same with the guys that we have there relative to the game plan."
The Texans kick off at Noon. The game will be televised on FOX.
