Matthew Stafford had a funny reaction to his new TD record

Few players in the NFL stick around as long as Matthew Stafford has. He's in his 18th season and just won his first MVP award at the age of 37 last year, aging like fine wine as the Los Angeles Rams' quarterback. Even fewer players have as much success as he's had with two different franchises.

After putting up huge numbers with the Lions from 2009-2020, he's now done the same with the Rams over the last five-plus years. On Sunday, he accomplished something no player in NFL history ever has, becoming the all-time leader in touchdown passes for two separate franchises. He's No. 1 in Lions history and now stands atop the Rams' leaderboard with 155 touchdown passes in only 81 games.

His reaction was priceless, poking fun at his age when asked about it on Sunday night after the Rams' win.

“It's pretty cool. It just means you’re old and you’ve played a lot of ball, and wore yourself thin enough at a certain place where they moved on," he joked. "No, but it’s a cool thing, and I touched on it a bit earlier. Yeah, my name’s in there, but, shoot, so many coaches, players, teammates just had so much to do with that, and so I appreciate all those guys. It’s been a heck of a ride, enjoy doing what I do, still love it, and look forward to doing some more.”

Earlier in his press conference, he showed appreciation for his teammates who caught his touchdown passes and the coaches for drawing up the plays that resulted in scores.

“Just super appreciative of all the guys that have helped me do that,” Stafford said. “Catching touchdowns and throwing touchdowns isn’t a one-man job. It takes a lot of people to block and get open, and coaches to draw plays. Just a cool thing. Didn’t really know that was going to happen today, but fired up."

Stafford is as humble as they come, but deep down, he knows what a cool accomplishment this is, especially being the first player ever to reach the top of two franchise leaderboards.
