Amanda Serrano to end illustrious career against Skye Falzon in Puerto Rico

Amanda Serrano will bring the curtain down on her illustrious career on January 9 when she takes on Skye Falzon at Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

The 38-year-old, who claimed world titles in a mind-boggling seven weight classes, is arguably second only to Katie Taylor as the best female fighter of her generation.

Taylor, of course, is the one fighter Serrano could not defeat, losing all three encounters with the Irish star, though at least two of the decisions could, on another day, have gone her way.

Her farewell will draw further parallels with Taylor, who retired in September after an emotional swansong against Flora Pili at Dublin’s Croke Park. Serrano, fittingly, is also returning home to say goodbye.

"Boxing has been my life, and I never could have imagined the journey it would take me and my family on,” Serrano said in a press release.

"From the early days when women's boxing was fighting for recognition in small theater shows, to headlining Madison Square Garden in New York, reaching millions of fans around the world on the biggest shows, and helping open doors for the next generation of female fighters, Jordan and I always believed and I'm proud of everything we've accomplished.

"But none of it happened alone. Nakisa, Jake and MVP believed in me and in women's boxing, and together we've helped change what's possible for women in this sport.

"We've fought for respect, equal opportunities, fair pay, and the choice to compete under the same rules as men. There's still more work to do, and I'll continue fighting for the next generation long after I hang up my gloves.

"To close my career at home in Puerto Rico, in front of the people who have supported me from the beginning, means everything. On Saturday, January 9, I'm going to give the fans one final night to remember.”

Serrano, 50-4-1 (32 KOs), will start as a heavy favorite to retain her WBO and WBA featherweight titles against Australia’s Falzon.

Also 38, Falzon has a 12-2 (7 KOs) record and has gained some momentum after losing two of her first three professional bouts. She has been unbeaten since 2022 but has yet to face anyone approaching Serrano’s class.

It will also be the first time Falzon has competed over 12 three-minute rounds, the format – in line with the men’s code – that Serrano long fought to secure.
