According to Dillon Danis, he was in serious talks to take on Nick Diaz this year before the UFC legend was pulled from negotiations.
This Friday, Real American Freestyle Wrestling put on their next event with RAF 14 headlined by a match between Arman Tsarukyan and Dillon Danis.
This will mark Danis’ third appearance under the RAF banner, with his previous two matches having come against Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev, both resulting in losses.
And according to the controversial Danis, he was scheduled to take on UFC legend Nick Diaz in MMA competition this year, but the fight was pulled.
The grappler was scheduled to make his return to MMA earlier this year as he booked a fight against Mike Perry, which was supposed to happen in August. Despite that Danis pulled out of the Perry matchup due to sustaining a bad cut in training, which led to more criticism from fans that he always pulls out of fights.
And although his MMA return continues to run into setbacks, the 33-year-old is determined to return to the cage soon, and he has once again turned his attention to Nate Diaz for a potential fight. Danis accused Diaz of turning down $1 million earlier this year, going on to claim that after Nate rejected multiple offers, he then kicked off talks for a fight against his older brother, Nick.
“I want that Nate Diaz fight and he was saying like, ‘Why are you giving this guy this and that?’, he was offered millions of dollars, millions of dollars, if I’m such an easy fight, you’re not gonna take $1 million? And in the contract it said if I pull out he gets $250,000, why wouldn’t you take that if it was such an easy fight?” Danis said during an RAF scrum.
“Nick Diaz was supposed to fight, I’m not supposed to even say this, Nick was agreeing to it but he’s a little, he’s going through some stuff, but Nick was supposed to be the fight after Perry. I’d toss Nick around like a ragdoll, I could beat Nick and Nate in the same night in the same ring, they’re both so bad. They can’t submit me, they can’t take me down… Put me in the cage with the Diaz’s, please. It’d be the funnest night of my life,” he continued.
Over eight months ago, Diaz teased a return to MMA after a few tough months in the headlines, which led to a lot of concern amongst fans. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem as though a Nick return to the sport is on the cards.
