Real Madrid will have to pay RB Leipzig an extra €2.5 million in bonus payments if Diomande lifts the Ballon d'Or.
Yan Diomande has been off to a hot start after his big-money move to Real Madrid, and RB Leipzig could benefit further if he lifts football's biggest individual prize. According to Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig would earn around €2.5 million if the Ivorian wins the Ballon d'Or.
The fee was previously reported at €125 million guaranteed, with €15 million in potential bonuses.
Diomande took the Bundesliga by storm last season after joining from CD Leganés. The winger finished with 12 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga and was ultimately named the league's Rookie of the Season.
Despite interest from many of Europe's top clubs, Die Roten Bullen aimed to keep their young star, but after a lengthy saga, a massive bid from Real Madrid was too good to turn down. The deal, which already shattered Leipzig's record sale, could continue to grow if bonuses are met.
Now back in La Liga, the 19-year-old has continued to perform. He has three goals and four assists in all competitions so far, earning a sizable role under José Mourinho despite Madrid's loaded attack.
Diomande scored his first goal in the Champions League when he came off the bench against his former club, beating Maarten Vandevoordt to give Madrid a 4-1 win over Leipzig.
Real Madrid players have a lengthy history with the Ballon d'Or, but none has won since Karim Benzema's triumph in 2022. The current champion is Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, who became the first Bundesliga player to win since Borussia Dortmund's Matthias Sammer in 1996.
