SJHN Daily: Sharks Recall Pohlkamp, Kucherov Fit for San Jose?
SJHN Daily: Sharks Recall Pohlkamp, Kucherov Fit for San Jose?

Nikita Kucherov’s future with the Tampa Bay Lightning has become one of the NHL’s biggest storylines.

Multiple reports indicate Kucherov has told the Lightning and his teammates that he does not intend to re-sign and would like to be traded. The 33-year-old is in the final year of an eight-year, $76 million contract and can become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

General manager Julien BriseBois has made the team’s position clear, saying Tampa has no intention of moving its franchise star. Head coach Jon Cooper said the forward remains committed to the team this season.

(Sheng’s two cents: This isn’t a sensible trade target for the San Jose Sharks, even if he wanted to come to San Jose. Unlike Artemi Panarin last year, who the Sharks did inquire about, Kucherov is still an MVP-caliber player who isn’t getting traded for 50 cents on the dollar like Panarin. And pending UFA Kucherov also isn’t taking a relative bargain contract like Panarin was willing to accept. The 33-year-old Kucherov is still a super-superstar, but the Sharks aren’t a player or two away, that he’s worth cashing in a lot of assets for.)
