Bryan Mbeumo was adamant that Manchester United's squad did not let Michael Carrick down with their display against Chelsea.
A dismal second-half showing at Stamford Bridge saw United capitulate to a 2-0 defeat, with Lisandro Martinez seeing red, leaving Carrick under even more pressure.
United passed up several chances in the first half, with Bruno Fernandes – on his return to the starting XI – and Amad Diallo squandering huge opportunities.
Matheus Cunha also had a goal disallowed for offside, but United's decent showing did not carry on after the break.
Instead, Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead in the 50th minute after breezing through United's midfield and defence, before Martinez picked up two reckless bookings in quick succession, with the latter foul resulting in a penalty, which Cole Palmer converted.
United are winless in nine games, which is their worst run since 1988, but Mbeumo, who saw a rasping strike brilliantly saved by Mike Penders late on, insisted the players did their part at Stamford Bridge.
Asked by TNT Sports if the players had let Carrick down, Mbeumo said: "No, obviously not. I think the mentality was there right from the first minute.
"[It was] harder with 10 men. We still trust everyone. With the man down, we still had some frustrations at the end. But I think we have done everything as a team."

Mbeumo saw positives to take from United's first-half display.
He said: "I think we did a lot of right things, especially in the first half when we could have been up.
"I think in the first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. The last few games we didn't create a lot, but obviously they're a good team with qualities.
"What we have shown, the mentality was there. Everyone worked really hard, and we still have to find some bits at the training ground."
Defeat left United in 16th place in the Premier League, and they could even end Saturday in the bottom three.
They face Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday before hosting Aston Villa in their final game prior to the international break.
