Noussair Mazraoui had a nightmare against Como but Carrick has no excuse after betraying Man Utd

There were hardly any “winners” against Como for Man Utd, but as far as losers go, it’s hard to look beyond Noussair Mazraoui.

The World Cup version of Noussair Mazraoui is firmly in the rearview mirror as he continued his torrid form for Man Utd vs Como.

Looking completely off the pace, he was given the runaround by Como, not helped by playing on his wrong foot and behind a rotating carousel of left wingers.

Still, his nightmare is not an excuse for Michael Carrick, who betrayed Man Utd by selecting him in the first place.

Michael Carrick should have played Harry Amass over Mazraoui

So far, Carrick escaped without playing Harry Amass because he had natural options, even though they weren’t in the best form.

Luke Shaw was replaced by Patrick Dorgu, and Amass played a game or two off the bench, but the situation against Como was dire.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui were the only two fit full-backs, and they are both right-backs by nature, so the stage was set for Amass to be challenged.

Man Utd would be in a stronger position if Ten Hag or Amorim had the guys to truly believe in the club's academy, one fan has claimed

Do you believe Michael Carrick's United will make the most of the young talent? Who will break through this season?

I do not see the point of having excellent young players who get sent out on loan to teams which are way down the pecking order in class terms that doesn't make them better players. My other worry is how come we have no had enough young players not making the jump to the premier league, is this a United problem other teams seem to have less issues?

The reality is that Michael and his staff have been too gutless to bring the academy players onto the pitch. It means nothing having a bench full of youngsters , if they stay on the bench. Especially when the established players are failing to produce on the pitch!

Slowly lososing faith in Carrick. His team set up and subbing are terrible. Cuhna was terrible today but he waited till the last 16 min to bring Sesko in. And his excuse will be match fitness again, his favorite thing to say. Santos should have come for Tieleman earlier to

Instead, Carrick played the veteran duo together, and Amass came on when the game was already lost, with United trailing 4-0.

In one swoop, all of Carrick’s excuses fell apart spectacularly. Amass is not ready? Mazraoui had a stinker, and not for the first time.

Options in senior players? Carrick had none for Como. Not the ideal circumstances to play them in? He sent on Amass when the team was losing 4-0.

Simply put, Carrick is a scared manager who would rather hide behind the experience of Mazraoui in his unnatural position rather than roll the dice on Amass and see if he can sink or swim.

If he sank, then Carrick would be justified in reducing his minutes, as he was already doing. If he swam, then all of a sudden, the team has a genuine option at LB who can change the whole outlook of the market next summer.

We already knew Mazraoui is not good enough as a left-back, and Carrick ensured we learned nothing. His nightmare was expected, and it came at the cost of Carrick betraying the club’s mantra of “Youth. Courage. Success.”
