Arizona Cardinals running back Tyler Allgeier took charge over the Dallas Cowboys defense in Week 8 but this should only be a point of reference for what General Manager Monti Ossenfort already knew. Allgeier's 11 attempts and 147 rushing yards might may some marvel but it only reinforces the optimism of head coach Mike LaFleur regarding the offense's potential upside.
LaFleur wants his offense to play with fuel and fire but most of their offensive possessions have stalled out due to negative plays and sacks allowed by former starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett. With quarterback Gardner Minshew taking over the most important leadership role on offense, the franchise can expect to see more ball distribution and decency overall. Allgeier knows that his ability to get those tough short-yardage gains and wear down opposing defenses late in games makes him an asset to LaFleur and the offense. LaFleur has the personnel to be productive and multi-faceted and the collective offensive output in Week 8 surely showcased that.
On Sunday, the Cardinals kept the contest within striking distance and were able to finally feed off of Allgeier's epic 63-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the third quarter. Allgeier's ability to sway the game's momentum and ignite the turnaround is not something the Cardinals will take as a result of luck but rather it speaks to Allgeier's determination and outright preparation. As a tandem, Allgeier and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love could play as a staple for the franchise, and their complementary running styles create a duality that is needed for the team. Ultimately, Allgeier's services will be needed for the Cardinals to continue running a balanced offensive attack. The team's 33-point output in Week 8 wouldn't have come to pass if not for Allgeier.
