Conor Benn is starting to think about opponents for when he returns to action in 2027.
Benn is taking time out following his second round KO loss to Ryan Garcia back in September. It was his first fight down at welterweight for four years and the cut, having been as high as 160lbs to twice fight Chris Eubank Jr, proved too much.
As well as losing to and then beating his long-time family rival, Benn also defeated Regis Prograis at 150lbs and has since said he will return at that weight or above.
In a new post on his Instagram account, he has now responded to a mocked-up fight poster for him versus Conor McGregor, which proposed the idea of the contest coming soon in 2027.
“Any day of the week.”
McGregor is a controversial figure both inside and outside of sport. The Irishman is a former UFC champion who has not fought since July, when he retired hurt against Max Holloway in the first round with a knee injury sustained during his first attack.
That return was his first in five years since he was stopped twice in a row by Dustin Poirier. Despite being the first man to hold the UFC featherweight and lightweight championship belts at the same time, he might be best known for his crossover to boxing in 2017 when he took on multi-weight pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and lost via TKO in the 10th round.
A fight between Benn and McGregor would likely get plenty of interest but would signal Benn is chasing high profile events and big pay days rather than world titles, while a rubber match with Chris Eubank Jr also remains a possibility.
