Nicolas Raskin may not be the only Rangers midfielder who leaves Ibrox in January

Nicolas Raskin faces an uncertain future at Rangers, and a January exit still cannot be completely ruled out.

Besiktas are pushing for Raskin, but still remain far short of the Light Blues’ valuation of the Belgium international.

The speculation is not affecting the 25-year-old, however, who’s continued to anchor the midfield exceptionally this season.

Tochi Chukwuani could be made surplus to requirements if Connor Barron returns

Mark Hendry has reported in Football Fancast that Derek McInnes has told the Ibrox chiefs to recall Connor Barron in the January transfer window. Barron is yet to feature for Middlesbrough despite it being the end of October. The Scottish midfielder has made the matchday squads but has been an unused substitute.

His exit in the summer was a decision made by the board, even though McInnes would have preferred him to stay and compete for a spot in his first team. However, given the summer arrivals of Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Vanja Dragojevic, the club felt that there were too many midfielders in the squad.

Barron was loaned out to get regular minutes, and he hasn’t yet got a single minute, which is valid grounds for a January recall. Given how highly the manager appears to rate him, he could ask the 24-year-old to stick around until the end of the season.

This could mean the end of the road for Tochi Chukwuani at Rangers, who will likely fall further in the pecking order of midfielders. The Dane has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in the eleven since his move in January 2026, and could be made surplus to requirements.

How has Chukwuani fared for Rangers this season?

Chukwuani has played just 49 minutes of league football all season and has not yet made a single start under McInnes. The only times he’s been named in the starting eleven have been in Europe and the Scottish League Cup.

Having featured just five times in the Scottish Premiership, all off the bench, it is clear just how low he is in the food chain. While he did find the back of the net once, he has not done anything to justify that he deserves more minutes.
