Hadjar must report to the FIA stewards after pushing a fan away in Mexico

Isack Hadjar must go to the stewards on Saturday morning of the Mexico City GP. The Red Bull Racing driver has been summoned over possible misconduct following an incident in the Formula 1 paddock on Friday. The French driver pushed away a fan who wanted to take a photo with him.

The stewards are therefore investigating what happened a day earlier. Hadjar was approached in the paddock by a fan who wanted to take a photo with him. The Red Bull Racing driver had already indicated that he was not particularly keen, but the fan nevertheless decided to hold up their phone and take a selfie. Hadjar pushed the fan away before shoving them again.

The penalty Hadjar could face

If the stewards decide to penalize him for pushing a fan away, he could be fined. The FIA guidelines stipulate a fine of up to €5,000 for misconduct in a controlled environment. In aggravating circumstances, that amount can rise to €10,000 or €15,000. The stewards may also take into account any provocative or aggressive behaviour by the other person.

A guideline of a minimum three-place grid penalty applies specifically to misconduct toward an official, it does not automatically apply to an incident involving a fan. For a first offence within two years, and where there are mitigating circumstances, the stewards may impose a suspended penalty or, exceptionally, issue a formal warning. More serious sanctions remain possible for very serious offences. The circumstances and severity of the shove will therefore determine whether a penalty is imposed.

Fans criticize Hadjar

The footage of the incident is circulating on social media, where fans are reacting disapprovingly. Some fully understand that Hadjar was setting boundaries and felt the fan was wrong to try to take a selfie anyway; others are harshly criticizing the Red Bull driver. "Hadjar clearly needs anger management sessions," one person wrote on X. "Unfortunately that’s his only fan gone now. The boy has no fans," wrote another.

"People will flame him for that but I understand his frustration.. The paddock has basically become a zoo for weird influencers and rich spoiled idiots who have no respect for the drivers/teams," one person wrote in Hadjar's defense.
