The San Francisco 49ers could go back to wide receiver early in the 2027 NFL Draft, according to CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson.
In Wilson’s latest mock draft, the Niners select Indiana junior Nick Marsh at No. 31 overall.
Marsh feels like a 49ers WR. He's big, physical, has contested-catch ability and can get after it as a blocker. The former Michigan St. transfer reminds me of the player he replaced: Elijah Sarratt.
Marsh, who stands at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, is having the best season of his college career. Through nine games, he has 38 catches for 669 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 74.3 receiving yards per game. He caught 41 passes for 649 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman at Michigan State in 2024, then 59 for 662 yards and six scores in 2025 before he transferred to Indiana for the 2026 season.
San Francisco has invested early at the receiver position recently, without much to show for it so far. The 49ers drafted a receiver in the first two rounds in two of the past three drafts: Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 in 2024 and Ole Miss’ De’Zhaun Stribling at No. 33 in the second round this year. Pearsall is out for the year with a knee injury and has played only sparingly in his time in the NFL, while Stribling is expected to be out until December after undergoing ankle surgery following Week 1.
The 49ers also took Jordan Watkins in the fourth round in 2025 and Jacob Cowing in the fourth round in 2024.
Taking another receiver might be a luxury, but the 49ers haven't had the best injury luck at the position and may need to exhaust every option. Mike Evans will be another year older, and the 49ers cannot rely on the combination of Pearsall, Stribling, Watkins, Cowing and Demarcus Robinson in 2027.
