England’s Rugby League World Cup full-back AJ Brimson is a person of great interest, with soon-to-be NRL club PNG Chiefs declaring they would love to sign him.
Chiefs gaffer Willie Peters, formerly of Hull KR, has openly declared that Brimson is a player he would love to sign, though with the Gold Coast Titans outside contracted until 2030, a release fee will need to be agreed.
Brimson can play at full-back and in the halves, though 2026 has seen him feature in the centres. His versatility will be a key asset, but Peters and his staff need to come to an agreement with Gold Coast over a settled figure.
Per The Daily Telegraph, Brimson has been offered a three-year deal to join the Port Moresby-based outfit, and will earn around $750,000 per season tax-free.
His current contract at the Titans sees him on a ~$900k per season contract for the next four seasons, and the two franchises can’t agree on a figure to make up the difference.
Peters spoke on the deal, explaining to Aussie media: “It’s with his management and the Titans now.
“There’s obviously strong interest from our end, and we’ve just got to wait and see where that goes.
“We’re waiting to hear back from his management and then the Titans to see what they’re going to do with the situation.
“But I certainly like the way he plays, and I think he’d be an asset to us.”
Another player Peters is hoping to sign at the Chiefs is homegrown young gun Cooper Bai.
Also at the Titans, the son of former Leeds Rhinos and Bradford Bulls winger Marcus Bai, has this week been given a tour of the new PNG facilities.
The 19-year-old is looking to depart the Gold Coast at the end of his contract, which concludes at the same time the Chiefs will enter the competition.
Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm are also interested in Bai’s signature, but having a father who is a Kumuls legend and having the chance to be a long-term player there is likely to lure him to Port Moresby.
