Vitor Pereira signals intentions after Wolves and Nottingham Forest – Aiming big in Premier League

Vitor Pereira wants another shot at the Premier League after his spells at Wolves and Nottingham Forest. But next time, he wants to compete at the top of the league.

The Portuguese coach has explained his plans for the future in an interview this week. And they’re firmly focused on the top end of the Premier League.

He’s been out of contract since the summer after a surprise departure from Nottingham Forest. He arrived at Forest in February this year, becoming their fourth manager of a chaotic season.

It proved to be a highly successful move for both parties as he stabilised a sinking ship, shoring up the defence to ensure Nottingham Forest secured Premier League safety with two games to spare.

He also oversaw a historic and unforgettable run ot the semi-finals of the Europa League, Forest’s first in 40 years. They were eventually knocked out by winners Aston Villa.

Wolves success

That was his second successful rescue mission in the Premier League, after previously doing the same at Wolves. Appointed in December 2024 with Wolves sitting 19th in the table, he also made an immediate impact at Molineux.

Again, he tightened the team defensively and then engineered a late season surge – including a club-record six match winning streak – that saw Wolves finish 16th and comfortably away from relegation trouble.

He was handed a three-year deal in September 2025, but a summer of big exits saw the team collapse under his leadership. He was eventually sacked 45 days after signing that deal after Wolves went winless in their first 10 games.

Premier League dreams

No, he’s back on the market and looking for his next role. And he insists that he wants a third shot in the Premier League, albeit away from relegation scraps.

“I want to reach a level where I can compete for titles in the Premier League,” he said on the 90+3* video podcast, broadcast yesterday on A BOLA TV.

“Throughout my career, I’ve set goals for myself. I wanted to become a coach, and I did, I wanted to reach the top flight, and I did.

“I wanted to become a national champion, and I did. Then I wanted to win titles abroad, and I did. I wanted to reach the Premier League, and I did. My next objective is to reach a competitive level that allows me to fight for titles in the Premier League.”

He was then asked about potentially winning the Champions League. That led to a slight, and certainly not deliberate, dig at Wolves.

“First, I need to have the opportunity to reach that level,” he added.

“You don’t win the Champions League while managing Wolverhampton—with all due respect to them. But keeping Wolverhampton up that year was, in a sense, like winning the Champions League.”
