Laura told the Standard: “I really enjoyed today – it’s been absolutely awesome.”
When asked what message she would have for children thinking about having a go at rugby, she said: “I’d say ‘do it’ – even if you are unsure about it, give it a try because it’s amazing – the rugby clubs are really friendly and really supportive.
“You’ll make some great friends and have a great laugh and you’ll get to be active and, honestly, being involved in rugby is one of the best things I’ve ever done.”
The Redditch Queenfishers – junior girls – team is open for those aged between nine and 12.
The rugby is 100 per cent non-contact in a safe, inclusive and fun environment.
The sport boosts fitness, agility and teamwork while teaching the girls valuable rugby skills.
They can also make new friends, build confidence and be part of a supportive team.
All abilities are welcome to the sessions between 9am and 10am on Sundays – no experience is necessary.
Anyone wanting to find out more can call Kate on 07842 175541.
Redditch Rugby Football Club also has spaces for under sixes, sevens, eights, nines, 10s, 13s, 16s and colts.
Again these sessions for the younger players are non-contact and are all about teamwork, friendship and having fun.
Players can have a four-week free trial to see if they like the sport.
The club gradually introduces contact from under nine onwards, with a focus on technique and confidence.
And coaches follow RFU guidelines with age-appropriate coaching and safety practices.
The sessions include training and matches on a Sunday.
