Liverpool are continuing to run the rule over Alex Scott after distancing themselves from a move for Felix Nmecha, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.

Various publications understand the Reds are planning to sign a new central midfielder in future transfer windows, with several targets being discussed.

BBC Sport claims Liverpool are admirers of Bournemouth star Scott, who is valued at more than €119million (£100m) ahead of the January transfer window.

England international Scott, who has less than two years remaining on his contract with the Cherries, is also being strongly linked with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Scott is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League having shone for the south-coast club in recent seasons.

One man who Liverpool are reportedly not considering signing, however, is Borussia Dortmund and Germany midfielder Nmecha.

Transfer reporter Plettenberg understands the Reds appreciate Nmecha but hold more interest in acquiring Scott, 23, or Lamine Camara, 22, of Monaco.

The Athletic reported in the summer that Bundesliga heavyweights Dortmund value Nmecha, 26, at around €120m (£100.4m).

Camara almost joined Chelsea in the summer

Camara, on the other hand, came close to joining Chelsea for €56m (£47m) in the summer, only for Ligue 1 outfit Monaco to abort the transfer on deadline day.

The Senegal international passed a medical with the Blues, who needed a new midfielder ahead of Enzo Fernandez joining Manchester City for €145m (£125m).

Yet Monaco - under pressure to make a sale in order to comply with financial rules - decided to keep Camara and sell Folarin Balogun to Everton instead.

However, Balogun decided against joining Everton after they renegotiated the terms of their deal with Monaco following claims the striker failed a medical.

While Camara has since been reintegrated into the Monaco fold, BBC Sport understands Liverpool are closely monitoring his progress in France.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are now prioritising signing Scott, who has reportedly turned down two offers to extend his contract with Bournemouth.
