Crystal Palace fans comments before AND after losing to Newcastle United

Some interesting comments from Crystal Palace fans before AND after losing to Newcastle United.

Two teams that were separated by only a point before kick-off.

However, Crystal Palace fans seeing their club end the weekend one place off the relegation zone whilst Newcastle United are now eighth.

Both Pierre Sage and Matthias Jaissle were under pressure to get a win on Sunday.

Intriguing to look at what the Crystal Palace fans had to say before AND after the defeat to United.

Crystal Palace fans commenting on their Holmesdale message board:

PRE-MATCH

‘No way we keep a clean sheet. If we win it will be something like 3-2.’

‘There’s no way we’re keeping a clean sheet, but the toon have got their own problems, so 3-2 to us’

‘I predict that after the match it will be suggested that whichever manager has just lost should be sacked. That’s pretty well where we are as a society.’

‘Watching Spurs and Cov and they both look better than us, can’t see how we can beat Newcastle unless we improve 200%.’

‘Newcastle have lost 3 out of their last 4 games and these games included 2 Away defeats both 4-1.
I would not be surprised if we attain some points from this game.’

‘We’ll come second’

‘A polite thought to all real palace out there. Pierre sage has not had our best striker, our best winger and joined us for a great support we have/ still have? f… Newcastle and lets get 3points sunday.’

‘Newcastle are a bunch of self centered…. who think they are bigger than they are and need a damn good thrashing.’

‘Lets all thump Newcastle so hard they begin speaking a comprehensible English.’

‘Y I, give ’em some Eke Thump.’

‘My heart says 3-1 Palace, my head says 3-1 Newcastle if Barnes and Elanga play.’

‘I have in mind a 2-1 /3-1 victory against a Newcastle team who have lost key players.’

‘Newcastle are not the best of travellers and haven’t seen anything this season that would suggest they have fixed that against anyone that puts them on the back foot. 2-0.’

POST-MATCH

‘Jaissle clearly got his players going for the second half and it paid off. Stupid to just hope the players will motivate themselves……’

‘I see Sage has laid the blame on the players not coming out with the right mindset etc, after halftime.’

‘Maybe Eddie Howe could be persuaded.’

‘I waiting for somebody to say we’re only 6 points off a Champions League place.’

‘After the optimism from Thursday’s performance, it was doubly disappointing to perform so poorly and lose so easily against a bang average Newcastle.

To me it evidenced the theory that the European teams we play against are not as strong as a typical Premier League outfit.

I came away from the game both angry and frustrated by what I had just seen.’

‘The team started well, but we didn’t carve out any clear chances. There were a couple of times the ball pinged round the Newcastle box. Then our levels dropped a bit and the first half was drab. The wind didn’t help and Newcastle handled the conditions better.

The start if the second half was a bit weird. All the half time people, kids entertainment, Pete and Alice, groundstaff were still on the pitch when the teams came out and the Palace players didn’t seem switched on. Unfortunately Newcastle were right on it, had 3 chances and scored 3 times. Even the offside decision failed to rouse Palace from their slumber.’

‘Don’t you think the fact we can’t defend or attack well might be due to the manager. This squad isn’t great but it isn’t worse than Hull, Ipswich, Sunderland, Fulham or Coventry for example. A competent manager would have more points than Sage and can still keep us up.’

‘Man City might save us.’

‘Not if we are bottom as that’s how it looks at the moment.’

‘Players look lost and seem not bothered manager out of his depth.’

‘For those that have consistently said selhurst doesn’t need the HF as the atmosphere is excellent without them, do any of you still back that claim, surely the jury is out.

‘Shall we sing a song for you’ the away fans sing. Our atmosphere is awful, such a shame and no it’s not about results, the HF backed the team win , lose or draw. It’s easy to sing when winning, every club does it.

Bad atmosphere, bad defensive tactics, concerning times for our club, just when a 12th man is needed.’

‘Maybe they will reform next season in the Championship.’

‘ Basically without a couple of hundred vocal HF fans with a drum driving the chants our support is embarrassing, even worse than Fulham!! Even with them our home form was poor!!Now we are so weak on the pitch the lack of atmosphere makes things seem even worse.

Very worrying times, relegation is a very serious threat.’

‘A total of 12 goals conceded in our last 4 games, this is relegation form and these vulnerabilities HAVE to be addressed as a matter of priority.

Yesterday, but for a marginal offside decision we would have lost 3-0 at Home which is unacceptable.’

‘Newcastle came to us on the back of 3 defeats in their last 4 games and lost 4-1 in their last 2 Away games.Yesterday they were distinctly mediocre but once again we found a way to lose.’

‘1st goal, that cross was perfect, any player touching it a very good chance of it going in.

2nd one Wharton was awful, over slow getting up and not pick up the runner.

Realistically that was the only real threat they did all match.’

‘Parish earns £2.8M a year 3rd highest in Prem I think you’ll find

Yet we’re 17th in the League.’

‘Hull, Ipswich, Sunderland, Fulham and Coventry did not sell their 3 best defensive players over the past 9 months.’

‘Sage is absolutely clueless. The players look clueless. Made Newcastle look good. Sage needs to go.’

‘A not particularly good Newcastle came out wanting a result, Palace just we’re not up to doing battle.’

‘It’s famously hard to play well after a Thursday night in Europe. Several players have played very badly individually. Newcastle’s goals were actually quite good.

If Sage had more credit in the bank, we’d probably not be talking about him today.’
