Heartbroken Barcelona star Raphinha reveals he struggled to play against Villa after Jesus de Miguel's tragic death

UD ALMERIA will donate all money raised by ticket sales for their game against Tenerife to the family of Jesus de Miguel.

The Tenerife striker, 30, tragically passed away after a horrific collision during a Spanish second-division match against Andorra.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who retired from Portugal duty today, has owned a 25 per cent stake in Almeria since February, with the club having been taken over by a Saudi investment group in 2025.

European football has been rocked by the tragic passing of De Miguel, whose heartbroken family are attending his funeral today.

They will be invited to the game against Almeria in April as guests of honour.

Almeria said in a statement: “Driven by our sense of social and humanitarian responsibility, and by our firm conviction of the importance of solidarity and of standing alongside all members of the football community, especially at such difficult times, UD Almeria, on the initiative of its president, Mr Mohammed Al Khereiji, has decided to allocate all of the ticket revenue from its home match against CD Tenerife, corresponding to matchday 34, to support the family of Jesus de Miguel, the footballer who passed away last Tuesday.

“We are fully aware that nothing can ever make up for the loss of a loved one, and that no support, whether financial or emotional, can ease the pain of a tragedy of this kind.

“However, we firmly believe that football goes far beyond the boundaries of the pitch, and that compassion, solidarity and mutual support in difficult moments are among the most important values that unite the football family.

“As part of this initiative, UD Almeria also wishes to extend a sincere invitation to the player’s family to attend the match, if their circumstances allow, as a gesture of our sincere support and solidarity at such a difficult time.”

Andorra keeper Jesus Owono was sent off over the fatal collision near the halfway line which caused the match to be abandoned.

He has since released a statement via his club sharing his condolences to De Miguel’s family in what has been a horrific few days for all involved.

Owono said: “These are the most difficult days of my life. I am struggling to find the words and find it very difficult to assimilate anything that has happened.

“I feel an enormous pain for the loss of Jesus. I think of him, his family and everyone who loved him. I know there will be many issues to address; I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect.

“But right now, honestly, I cannot think of anything else except Jesus and the pain we are experiencing. Rest in peace, Jesus.”

Tenerife’s game against Granada at the weekend has been called off as the club struggles to come to terms with their loss.

A post-mortem found that the dad-of-one died from “accidental chest trauma.”

Pathologists have submitted preliminary conclusions about the reasons for the 30-year-old dad-of-one’s passing to an investigating court.

De Miguel’s father was watching the contest in a bar in his hometown and broke down crying before gathering the family to head for Tenerife.

They joined Jesus’ girlfriend Maria Fernandez, who had been at the game with their one-year-old daughter.

A close friend of De Miguel’s revealed that Maria had been alone at the hospital before her partner’s family showed up.

Fernando Roman, who plays for Talavera, sat down for an emotional interview with Vamos a Ver.

He said: “Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were talking all afternoon and all night with María, his girlfriend, who was alone in the hospital.

“I’ve spoken with his girlfriend, and you can imagine how she is. Now we have to be with the family.

“We have to send our love to his family, to María, to his daughter Carla, who is a year and a few months old.

“It was unbelievable because we were talking about travelling to Disney with the girls, with my daughter too, and look what’s happened.”

Jesus’ body was flown to the Spanish mainland yesterday for his funeral in the small town of Navahermosa, where his parents are based.
