Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are reportedly close to completing a major player exchange ahead of the IPL 2027 season, with Hardik Pandya potentially moving to the Punjab-based franchise.
India pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod are understood to be part of the proposed deal, which could become one of the biggest trades in the league's history.
According to a report by Sportstar, negotiations between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have reached an advanced stage, with senior management understood to have agreed on the proposed exchange.
The paperwork is expected to be processed by IPL officials, while an official announcement could arrive later this week, ahead of the November 17 retention deadline.
Punjab Kings' interest in Hardik Pandya reportedly gathered momentum after an initial approach from a senior Mumbai Indians official. Then, they agreed to explore this trade even if it came at the cost of parting ways with India's leading T20I wicket-taker.
Not just Arshdeep Singh, Punjab Kings will also be trading wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Hardik Pandya.
Punjab Kings were not the only franchise interested in acquiring Hardik. Sportstar reported that Mumbai Indians had explored trade possibilities with at least three teams. Kolkata Knight Riders were the only other franchise, apart from Punjab, whose discussions with Mumbai reached an advanced stage.
KKR had considered a potential multi-player deal involving the all-rounder. However, with Hardik seemingly moving closer to Punjab, it remains to be seen whether the Kolkata franchise will approach Mumbai Indians for another player.
Arshdeep's possible departure could also lead to another exchange involving Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. The report suggests that PBKS may explore a swap involving left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.
They are eyeing this trade because Hardik Pandya will fill the pace-bowling all-rounder slots along with Marco Jansen, and they might not need another option in Marcus Stoinis. However, PBKS do need a left-arm pacer in Mohsin Khan.
The proposed trade would involve two of India's leading T20 performers. Hardik has played 338 T20 matches, scoring 6,344 runs at a strike rate of 144.21 and taking 230 wickets. Arshdeep has featured in 228 T20 matches, claiming 294 wickets, while scoring 193 runs.
In T20 internationals, Hardik has 2,288 runs at a strike rate of 145.91 and 114 wickets from 138 matches. Arshdeep has taken 151 wickets in 104 T20Is at an average of 20.74 and an economy rate of 8.67.
Their IPL records also underline their value. Hardik has scored 2,955 runs at a strike rate of 146.28 and picked up 82 wickets in 162 matches. Arshdeep has claimed 111 wickets in 96 IPL appearances, with 32 runs to his name.
