In a major development, the International Cricket Council (ICC), led by Jay Shah, has reportedly approved Pakistan to host the Women's T20 World Cup 2028. The start date and the date of the final match of the tournament have also been revealed on Friday, October 23.

On Friday evening, it has been claimed on 'X' that the global cricket governing body has approved Pakistan to arrange the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup. The first match of the flagship tournament will be on September 7, 2028, with the final match on October 1.

ICC confirms Pakistan as the host nation of the Women's T20 World Cup 2028

Pakistan was almost confirmed to host the global event. Multiple previous media reports indicated that the cricket council was close to handing the hosting rights to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The dates and venues for the tournament were due to be released. As per the latest updates, dates for the first and the final matches of the event have been confirmed. Details on the other fixtures, venues, and times of each match are yet to be officially disclosed.

The 2028 edition of the Women's T20 World Cup will be hosted by around 12 teams. Among those twelve teams. As the host nation of the tournament, the Women in Green are confirmed to take part in the title race.

A major milestone for Pakistan

Hosting the prestigious tournament will be a major milestone in Pakistan cricket. Before, they hosted the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, which was the nation's first global ICC event in 29 years, the ACC Asia Cup in full in 2008, and co-hosted the 2023 edition with Sri Lanka.

Because of the ongoing political tension between India and Pakistan, the India Women's National Cricket Team may not agree to play in Pakistan. Therefore, the tournament is likely to be conducted in a hybrid model, with all of Team India's matches outside Pakistan. India will start the tournament as one of the favorites to claim the trophy, so there will be enough chances for them to qualify for the final.

The final announcement is yet to be made for the T20 World Cup 2028

On the other hand, Pakistan women's cricket performance in the recent past was not as good as it could be. In the recently played ICC tournament, the team led by Fatima Sana failed brutally. In the 2026 Asian Games too, it was the Harmanpreet Kaur and his girls who claimed the gold medals in Japan. In 2028, during the T20 World Cup, the Pakistan women's cricket team will try to do their best, utilising the home conditions.

Under the hybrid model, the Indian women's team could play their matches at a neutral venue such as the UAE or Sri Lanka. The rest of the matches of the tournament will be played across Pakistan.

Grounds like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi have emerged as prime venues in the nation to host the World Cup matches. The official announcement and the details of the tournament are yet to come.
