Manchester United fans directed their full focus on Lisandro Martinez after the Red Devils’ Premier League test against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Carrick arrived at Stamford Bridge under serious pressure after the Manchester United manager’s rough start to the 2026-27 Premier League season at Old Trafford.

Man Utd fans are convinced that Lisandro Martinez has cost Michael Carrick his managerial role after his red card

Manchester United and Chelsea played an end-to-end first half at Stamford Bridge, despite the scoreline being 0-0 by the half-time whistle. However, Chelsea broke the deadlock inside the first five minutes of the second half after Morgan Rogers netted past Senne Lammens.

Cole Palmer then doubled Chelsea’s lead from the spot-kick after Lisandro Martinez was sent off for a second bookable offence. Lisandro Martinez’s red card sparked an instant reaction from Manchester United fans, who feel that the 2022 World Cup winner ‘threw’ the under-pressure Michael Carrick “under the bus.”

One Man Utd fan shared: “Can we finally stop pretending Martinez has ever been any good for us? […] [He has] thrown Carrick right under the bus with that red.”

Someone else tweeted: “Carrick is now going to get thrown under the bus! He’s got us playing well today! Martinez has cost him massively!”

“I [can’t] even blame Carrick. This is all on the players. Martinez [is] definitely throwing Carrick under the bus for both goals,” another Red Devils supporter posted.
