James Maddison was emotional as he came off with a new injury(Image: Sky Sports)
Tottenham star James Maddison has picked up another injury which forced him off early into the second half of the Premier League clash against Chelsea. Referee Chris Kavanagh brought the game to a halt just a few minutes after the interval.
Sky Sports' cameras later captured the reason for the stoppage with the Spurs attacking midfielder on his haunches and in conversation with his team-mates. Roberto De Zerbi quickly readied Conor Gallagher to come into the clash as he looked on concerningly.
Maddison received treatment from club physios with the decision swiftly made to bring him off. Both Tottenham and Chelsea stars offered him support as he trudged off the pitch with his injury nightmare continuing.
Earlier this week, Maddison made his first start in nearly 18 months after dealing with a serious knee injury. During the Europa League semi-final first leg against Bodo/Glimt, he suffered a knee injury and during pre-season a few months later, Maddison tore his ACL.
Maddison looked sharp against his former club Coventry City and he scored a superb goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday evening before coming off midway through the second half.
De Zerbi had revealed in his press conference ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge that Maddison missed some training and may not feature. However, he revealed to club channels that the 29-year-old was available and to the surprise of many, was included in the starting XI.
