At Eden Park in Auckland on November 4, 2026, Arshdeep Singh delivered a commanding ten-over spell to claim 4/70 in the first ODI of India's five-match series against New Zealand. The left-arm pacer's effort helped restrict the hosts to 185 runs, setting up a strong position for the visiting side.

Arshdeep's four-wicket return made him only the third Indian pace bowler to achieve a four-wicket haul in an ODI on New Zealand soil, joining Javagal Srinath and Mohammed Shami in that select company. His dismissal of Glenn Phillips was his fourth wicket of the innings, a moment that left New Zealand tottering at 146 for nine.

Gurnoor Brar contributed three wickets to the bowling effort, while Anshul Kamboj chipped in with two more as India's pace attack shared the workload effectively across the innings.

How does Arshdeep's 4/70 rank among Indian pacers in New Zealand ODIs?

Arshdeep Singh's figures of 4/70 at Eden Park rank as the fourth-best ODI bowling return by an Indian pace bowler in New Zealand. The performance places him in distinguished company when measured against the efforts of those who preceded him on New Zealand pitches.

Srinath's 4/23 at Auckland in 2003 stands as the benchmark at the top of that list. Srinath had also taken 4/52 at Napier, while Shami's 4/55 at Napier in 2014 sits ahead of Arshdeep's figures in the overall ranking. Each of those earlier spells came in different conditions and against varying New Zealand line-ups, making Arshdeep's entry into the list a notable addition to Indian pace bowling history in the country.

What else stood out from Arshdeep Singh's spell at Eden Park?

Arshdeep bowled his full allocation of ten overs in the first ODI, underlining the trust the team management placed in him to lead the attack through the innings. His four-wicket return was also notable because he narrowly missed what would have been his second five-wicket haul in ODI cricket, falling one wicket short of that landmark.

The combined bowling effort from Arshdeep, Brar and Kamboj ensured New Zealand were bowled out for 185, a total that gave India a clear target to chase in the series opener at Auckland.
