Updated SEC football standings after Week 8

Texas A&M now sits at 4-4 and 1-4 in SEC play after falling to No. 13 Alabama on the road, 31-20, despite holding a 20-17 lead early in the fourth quarter. Texas A&M is clearly a talented but bad football team, and coach Mike Elko's third season is already a massive failure after leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff last season.

While A&M losing to an above-average Alabama team on the road isn't shocking by any means, the Aggies had a chance to pull off the upset in the fourth quarter, but a botched snap on a fourth-down attempt directly led to good field position and Alabama's first of two late touchdowns that sealed the win for the home team.

At this point, it's hard to see where Texas A&M's next win will come from, as South Carolina on the road, Tennessee at home, Oklahoma in Norman, and Texas at home all present challenges on both sides of the ball. The Aggies enter the bye week looking to get healthy, and we'll see if they have anything left in the tank.

Around the rest of the SEC, Auburn's emotional loss to Georgia didn't translate on Saturday, as LSU blew out the Tigers 38-17; South Carolina's dramatic 27-24 home win was the most exciting conference game outside Texas vs. Ole Miss. Only 12 SEC teams played Saturday, so the latest SEC standings saw little movement.
