CHN Daily: Blackhawks Back Home; Roobroeck Honored; Wright Finally Dealt

The Chicago Blackhawks didn’t get a win during the two-game dads trip, but they at least closed out the quick roadie with their best performance of the season against the Boston Bruins on Halloween afternoon.

While the Blackhawks should have claimed their first road win of the year in Beantown, they scraped out their first road point with a 5-4 overtime loss and now have a new standard moving forward. They’ll need to hold to that standard on Monday at the United Center, with Nathan MacKinnon and the pesky Colorado Avalanche in town.

Get prepared for tonight’s matchup against the Avalanche with Chicago Hockey Now’s Game Day Preview column later this morning, after the teams finish their morning skates.

More in the links for thoughts, takeaways, and stats from Saturday’s frustrating defeat to the Bruins, where the Blackhawks recorded a season-high in shots on goal and scored four goals for the first time since Oct. 15.

Also in Blackhawks news, Ryan Roobroeck earned OHL Player of the Month honors, while Gavin Hayes scored again for the Rockford IceHogs.

Around the league, the Seattle Kraken and Nashville Predators swapped former first-round picks, November predictions for Simon Edvinsson & Dylan Larkin, and Connor McDavid extended his season-opening point streak.

All that & more in the Daily!

Blackhawks Game Recaps, News & Trade Rumors

Chicago Hockey Now: From Saturday’s loss in Boston. The Blackhawks fell short against the Bruins in gut-punching fashion, but they played their best game of the season and set a new standard. The improved aggression and shoot-first mentality were on full display, and Anton Frondell was the best player on the ice. But a costly mistake late in the third period and missed overtime chances kept the Hawks from earning two points.

In Rockford IceHogs news, captain Brett Seney became the franchise’s all-time leading point scorer (215 points) in Sunday’s 4-3 win over the Texas Stars. Seney fittingly scored the game-winning goal in the third period as part of a multi-point effort. Gavin Hayes also scored for the fifth straight game.

The only downside from Rockford’s win was forward Nick Lardis suffering an injury in the first period and not returning to the game. The IceHogs have yet to provide any update on Lardis’ status.

NHL Game Recaps, Rumors, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: From Sunday Overractions, Michael Amato writes why the Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Wild must trade superstars Nikita Kucherov and Quinn Hughes before it’s too late. Amato believes the trade blueprint for Kucherov is already out there, with the Lightning possibly looking for what the Carolina Hurricanes received in exchange for Mikko Rantanen two years ago.

Detroit Hockey Now: Max Smith offered a prediction for the Detroit Red Wings. He believes both Simon Edvinsson and Dylan Larkin will be traded before Thanksgiving. Detroit should try to solve the situation as soon as possible, and Smith believes the spectacle has to end sooner rather than later.

NHL.com: Shane Wright has been involved in trade rumors for months now, and the Seattle Kraken have finally moved on from the former first-round pick. The Kraken sent Wright to the Nashville Predators and received another past first-rounder in return, with Matthew Wood heading to Seattle in the one-for-one swap.

TSN: Cutter Gauthier lifted the Anaheim Ducks to a 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, recording his second career hat trick. Leo Carlsson had three assists, and former Blackhawks netminder (sort of) Laurent Brossoit stopped 20 shots in his Ducks debut.

More Sportsnet: Connor McDavid’s torrid start to the season just keeps going, as he’s now become the fastest player in NHL history to reach 30 assists. McDavid has recorded a point in all 15 games this year and had another multi-point outing in the Edmonton Oilers’ 4-1 win over the New York Rangers.

Carolina Hockey Now: Pyotr Kochetkov remains perfect for the season, recording his franchise-record 10th straight win in the Carolina Hurricanes‘ 7-0 thrashing over the Winnipeg Jets. Kochetkov has the second-longest winning streak to open a season in NHL history.

More NHL.com: Despite the Winnipeg Jets losing their ninth straight game on Sunday, head coach Scott Arniel isn’t concerned about his job status. Could there be a coaching change in Winnipeg soon?

Boston Hockey Now: Somehow, the NHL Department of Player Safety determined that Nikita Zadorov’s sucker punch on Alex Vlasic only warranted a fine. Uhhh, what? The Boston Bruins defenseman has been fined multiple times and suspended previously in his career. No consistency from George Parros & Co yet again.
