Mbappé opens up on Ballon d'Or and defensive role at Real Madrid
This remarkable run began just under a year ago in Athens, where he is set to feature this Wednesday against AEK. Piraeus, home of Olympiacos, forms part of the Greek capital's wider metropolitan area.
Against the red-and-whites, Kylian Mbappe bagged all four goals for Real Madrid in a thrilling 4-3 victory. That masterclass ignited a sequence of nine consecutive fixtures in which the Frenchman has either scored or set up a goal when starting in the Champions League.
He found the net in every single one of those encounters bar the play-off meeting with Benfica, a contest where he instead created the only goal of the game. Prior to that, he had fired braces against Monaco and Benfica during the league phase.
Since that second clash at Da Luz, Mbappe has struck against Bayern (both in Madrid and in Germany), Inter, Roma, and Leipzig, where he also turned provider. Interspersed between those starts, he remained on the bench against Manchester City at the Bernabeu in the league phase and played just 21 minutes as a substitute at the Etihad in the round of 16.
