Bedoya returned to Sweden with Helsingborgs before moving to France, where he spent three seasons with Ligue 1 side Nantes. But it was back in the United States where the midfielder enjoyed the longest and most successful spell of his club career.
Bedoya joined Philadelphia Union in 2016 and went on to become a major figure at the MLS club, captaining the side and making more than 300 appearances. Now 39, he has confirmed that the current campaign will be his last as a professional, bringing the curtain down on a 17-year playing career.
Bedoya first emerged as one of American college football's leading talents at Boston College, earning NCAA first-team All-American honours and being named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Offensive Player of the Year in 2007.
That helped earn him a move to Europe with Orebro in 2009 before Ally McCoist brought him to Rangers two years later. His spell at Ibrox proved brief, but Bedoya went on to build an impressive career at club and international level.
He earned 66 caps for the United States and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup, and he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup twice, in 2013 and 2017.
At Philadelphia, Bedoya helped the Union reach the MLS Cup final in 2022. He has remained involved during his final campaign as he prepares to bring his playing career to an end.
