After their first loss on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, everything is on the table for the Minnesota Vikings prior to the trade deadline. They are 6-1, but the offense remains a massive question. Kevin O’Connell has stuck behind Kyler Murray as his quarterback, but that doesn’t mean other changes aren’t on the horizon.
For now, though, the status quo remains in play, and Minnesota will soon turn its focus to the 6-1 Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. The long week gives general manager Nolan Teasley additional time to bring in talent, but he hasn’t pulled the trigger on anything yet.
That didn’t stop the MN Vikings from opening spots on their roster.
We are still a week from the NFL trade deadline, but that doesn’t preclude teams from making moves ahead of time. So far the Minnesota Vikings have been linked to plenty of big names but have done nothing of consequence. On Tuesday, though, they opened a pair of roster spots by cutting both (G) Trevor Keegan and (TE) Bryson Nesbit.
Trevor Keegan might be most notable for his influencer wife Hanna Cavinder, a former Miami Hurricanes basketball player. The MN Vikings claimed him off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys as guard depth, and he played in seven games, but he will be looking for a new team quickly.
Guard depth isn’t ideal for the Vikings right now with Donovan Jackson out for the year and Will Fries struggling. Their willingness to move on, though, could suggest something is on the horizon, as speculated by beat writer Emily Leiker (Star Tribune).
It’s going to be a very interesting week for the Minnesota Vikings. Should general manager Nolan Teasley make moves of consequence over the next week, this team could vault right back into Super Bowl contention. How the vacated roster spots are utilized will be the story of the next couple of weeks.
