Jamie Reid confident Reading can unlock promotion form

The Royals head into Wednesday night's clash with Leyton Orient looking to bounce back from a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic after producing one of their best performances of the season in the 5-1 victory over MK Dons.

With League One results continuing to fluctuate from week to week, Reid admits consistency will be the defining factor for teams with promotion ambitions.

"League One is tough," the striker said.

"I've been in it for a few years now and it's a tough league. Every game is physical and, like you said, results can go either way.

"If you can build consistency, I think we've got a great structure and, within that, we've got great quality. If we can find that consistency, we'll be where we want to be."

Reading currently sit 7th

Reading's campaign has already highlighted the division's unpredictability, with eye-catching victories followed by disappointing setbacks.

However, Reid is convinced the Royals are moving in the right direction and believes the hard work being done behind the scenes will soon translate into a more sustained run of results.

The summer arrival has spent just over a month at the club and has been impressed by the standards he has encountered on the training ground.

"Absolutely," he said when asked whether a consistent run is around the corner.

"I've been here for over a month now and the training and the detail and the hours that we put in at the training ground.

"At times you see it come out in the games and we're just looking for that consistency and I'm sure it will come."

Reading will hope that improvement arrives sooner rather than later as they return to the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Wednesday evening, where a victory over Leyton Orient would provide the perfect response to last weekend's disappointment.

While still waiting for his first goal in blue and white, Reid remains confident both his own breakthrough and Reading's search for consistency are only a matter of time.

"The first one is always the hardest," he said.

"But I know what I can do. I believe in myself and I know my goal will come."

With League One offering little room for error and few guarantees from one week to the next, Reid believes Reading's ability to string results together could be the key factor in determining where they finish this season.
