Virat Kohli once again gave cricket fans a reason to talk about him, but this time, it was not because of his batting or fielding skills. During the opening ODI between New Zealand and India at Eden Park in Auckland, the former Indian captain entertained everyone by recreating WWE superstar John Cena‘s famous ‘You Can’t See Me’ gesture.
The hilarious moment quickly caught the attention of spectators and viewers, adding an entertaining twist to an otherwise competitive contest. Kohli’s playful interaction with New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips also highlighted his ability to bring energy and excitement to the field.
The incident took place during the 17th over of New Zealand’s innings. Following a series of dismissals, Glenn Phillips arrived at the crease with the responsibility of stabilising the hosts’ batting effort.
However, before Phillips could fully settle into his innings, Kohli decided to have some fun. The Indian star approached the New Zealand batter and recreated Cena’s legendary hand gesture, moving his palm across his face in the same manner as the WWE icon.
The gesture, popularly associated with the catchphrase ‘You Can’t See Me’, has become one of the most recognisable celebrations in professional wrestling. What made the moment even more entertaining was the reaction from the stadium. The DJ played John Cena’s famous entrance music, ‘The Time Is Now’, through the Eden Park speakers, perfectly complementing Kohli’s antics.
The unexpected combination of cricket and WWE entertainment brought smiles to the faces of fans and commentators. Kohli’s playful side once again became a talking point, with the moment attracting attention across social media.

While his Cena-inspired gesture grabbed plenty of attention, Kohli also made a significant contribution with his fielding during the contest. The former India captain produced an outstanding diving catch at second slip to dismiss Nathan Smith. Reacting quickly to an outside edge off Anshul Kamboj‘s bowling, Kohli stretched out his right hand and completed a stunning catch just above the ground.
He followed it up with an animated celebration, performing a bow-and-arrow gesture after completing the dismissal. The celebration added another memorable moment to his impressive fielding display. Meanwhile, India’s bowling unit delivered an impressive performance to restrict New Zealand to 185 runs in 40.2 overs. The home side struggled to build partnerships, with most of their batters failing to make substantial contributions.
Tim Seifert was the leading run-scorer for New Zealand with 38, while Daryl Mitchell chipped in with 28. Blair Tickner provided some late resistance, smashing 34 runs from just 23 deliveries, including four sixes and a boundary. Arshdeep Singh spearheaded India’s bowling effort, finishing with figures of 4/70 from his 10 overs. Gurnoor Brar also made an important contribution by claiming three wickets for 44 runs.
India’s disciplined bowling and energetic fielding ensured that New Zealand never managed to gain complete control of their innings. However, it was Kohli’s entertaining recreation of Cena’s signature gesture that provided one of the most memorable off-field moments of the match.
