Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams was unstoppable during the Bears’ 30-24 Week 7 win over the New England Patriots on Thursday evening. Williams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and 2 touchdowns to register his second consecutive 300-plus-yard game for the Bears.
After Williams’ Week 7 performance against the Patriots, ex-NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky lavished praise on the Bears standout.
During Friday’s segment of the “Get Up” show, Orlovsky compared Williams to some of the league’s best quarterbacks.
“It was flawless. You will not find quarterback tape better than that,” Orlovsky declared. “It looked like a young Aaron Rodgers. And it wasn’t a coming-out party. It’s the ‘I’m in a different category’ party. It was an ‘I want to be in the conversation with Patrick [Mahomes], Lamar [Jackson], Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow’ party.”
He added, “It was like watching one of those young players. When it comes to decision-making in and out of structure, flawless. The movement in the pocket, flawless. Playing on time when it’s mandatory, flawless. The anticipation and ball placement, that’s it for me.”
Williams was one of the most highly touted draft prospects in recent memory and was predictably selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Bears.
He set an NFL rookie record by throwing 353 consecutive passes without an interception, the fourth-longest single-season streak in league history.
Williams took his game to another level under Ben Johnson, who made the quarterback’s development a major focus after becoming Bears coach in 2025. He led the Bears to a series of fourth-quarter comeback wins last season, earning the nickname ‘Iceman.’
The Bears star missed three games with a right hamstring injury sustained in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Despite his unavailability, the Bears won two of those games, with Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum deputizing for the former Heisman Trophy winner.
Williams has earned PFN’s NFL QB Impact grade of 84.4 (No. 4 in the NFL) this season, after tallying 1,020 passing yards on 71% completion, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception for the Bears.
His two straight 300-plus-yard games have made him the first Bears quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in consecutive games since Mitch Trubisky achieved it in three straight games eight years ago.
After an 11-6 season in 2025, the Bears are 5-2 and currently second in the NFC North behind the unbeaten Vikings. They are one of the Super Bowl dark horses, especially with the former USC Trojans star back under center.
