There is a staggering £823million between Manchester United and Como when it comes to revenue and funds spent on wages before this summer. That did not matter in the slightest on Wednesday evening, however, as Michael Carrick's side were battered 4-1 by the Italian outfit in the Champions League.
A Nico Paz stunner put Como in front after just two minutes with strikes from Anastasios Douvikas, Jacobo Ramon and another from Paz making Joshua Zirkzee's late goal nothing more than a consolation.
United were outworked, outfought and ultimately comfortably beaten by the better team. Running more than the opponent should be the bare minimum and even though that scenario did play out for Como, United should have the quality to secure a positive result.
The two clubs are arguably in different stratospheres when it comes to global recognition and money both earned and spent. That is further proven by the fact Como's revenue is £41m while United's is £678m, as revealed by football finance expert Kieran Maguire.
It was pointed out that these figures were the case from before the summer with the Serie A side also having forked out £72m on wages in comparison to United spending £302m.
For 90 minutes, however, that did not matter with the Serie A side running out deserved winners. On any given day, a team billed as favourites can lose but to be beaten in that manner is embarrassing particularly considering the sheer gap in finances.

Carrick acknowledged the dreadful display at full-time by apologising to the United supporters still inside the stadium with many having already headed for the exits.
The United head coach later verbalised his feelings and provided a clear response to comments from Bruno Fernandes regarding the tactics deployed by Carrick and his staff.
He said in a press conference: "We might win, we might lose, but the way we went about it tonight, I wouldn't say everyone, but the way we went about it in some ways tonight wasn't acceptable. And I just wanted to let the fans know that I feel for them, for sure.
"It wasn't just the goals, if I'm totally honest. It was the manner and the way we played at times, in the way we went about it, that was the difficult thing to watch for me."
"We actually half-pressed man-to-man the second half and then conceded a goal from that. And there's a little bit on whatever system you play, whatever tactics you play, if you don't run, and you don't run forward, and you don't run back, you ain't going to win."
