I think it's one Xabi Alonso has to answer very soon [on why Estevao hasn't played] because you can talk about injuries and suspensions to forward players and again, in a game like today he is a difference maker.

He's the last person you want to see come on that pitch tonight if you are a Liverpool defender. Him getting on the ball, running at you, making things happen. I just feel that there's something there at the moment that is stopping him getting the game time that we are all sitting here thinking he should be getting.

Absolutely brilliant drama at the end. A combination of some really good penalties and some not so good penalties. The keepers pulling off saves as well, but again, the game was played in a really good spirit.

Two teams that faced it in exactly the way that you would want them to and really went all out to win the game.

Chelsea will probably be disappointed that they haven't come away winning this game because I think in the second half they looked the most likely.

Apart from Ronald Araújo's header where he should score and when Bradley Barcola does well to force Mike Penders to make a good save.

[For Chelsea] it's Morgan Rogers who has had quite a few opportunities.

Chelsea now make a triple change as Emanuel Emegha, Valentín Barco and Marco Palestra come on for Danny Welbeck, Malo Gusto and Moisés Caicedo.

This is the first appearance of the season for summer signing Emanuel Emegha, with debut having been delayed by injury. A chance to see what the forward can do.

Two big changes at either end!

Ronald Araujo is picked out unmarked inside the box by a cross and sends a header at goal, but Mike Penders saves and then Chelsea counter through Morgan Rogers, who gets to the edge of the box but Joe Gomez does really well to get back and get the block in.

Ngumoha has to do better there.

When they break Gakpo makes a great run, [Ngumoha] get your head up, and slide Gakpo in.

He's still a young man so you don't want to be too critical of him, but these are the moments when you can go to that next level. It's can you pick the pass.

It's been a good game of football. I think Liverpool have been the better team, but Chelsea look a threat. In particular with Morgan Rogers causing a lot of problems, but Liverpool look a threat as well.

There were a few times when Gakpo is played in at the end, and he looks a bit hesitant. He's on his heels when he should be on his toes, but like I said it's a really good game. I'm looking forward to the second half.

Do they deserve it? Not really because Liverpool have been the better team, but Ryan Gravenberch just switched off, and he knows it's a penalty.

It's a confident penalty and I never thought [Morgan Rogers] was going to miss.

It's something that I think we'll get used to saying but there really is something about Rio Ngumoha that gets fans off their seats, when he has the ball.

We're also getting used to hearing the "Rio, Rio" chant around Anfield.

Gary Bennett
Ex-Sunderland defender on BBC Radio Newcastle

I said before the game I was looking forward to seeing Jocelin Ta Bi.

He’s been involved in both goals.

What I like about him is he attacks the fullback, he has a go.

Manchester City back in it!

Lots to look at here as Floyd Samba's lovely little dummy then shot looks like it strikes the arm of Jaouen Hadjam.

Instead the play goes on and Phil Foden lays the ball off for Mateo Kovacic, who finishes superbly off the inside of the post and into the bottom corner.

Lovely ones to watch, those.

You have to look at the amount of games that Virgil van Dijk has played and his age.

The one thing as you get older, playing the games back to back starts to take a bit longer to recover, and going back to that Villarreal game he made really uncharacteristic mistakes. Maybe it's a little bit of fatigue, and not quite being where he needs to be mentally.

Jaquet is a lot younger, he's also come in and played a lot of football but he has been magnificent.

As a partnership, particularly in the Premier League they have looked a lot more solid

Chelsea's Cole Palmer will not miss the Blues' Premier League meeting with Manchester United on Saturday, despite being sent off in his side's last Premier League match.

Palmer was shown two yellow cards in the second half of the Blues' defeat by rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. That dismissal meant that Palmer was handed a one-match ban.

The England playmaker was shown his first caution for an off-the-ball incident involving Spurs' Mateus Fernandes. He was then shown a second yellow card for a foul on Conor Gallagher.

In most cases, this would be served in that team's next Premier League match. However, Palmer will not miss Chelsea's meeting with United at Stamford Bridge.

Instead, Palmer is banned for the Blues' EFL Cup fourth-round match at Liverpool. This is because red card suspensions are carried out across domestic competitions rather than being specific to the competition they were received in.
