Devin Haney credits DAZN with offering the opponents he needs to build his legacy. After 11 months outside the ring, however, he still needs a fight date to turn that explanation into something fans can judge.
Haney has not fought since beating Brian Norman Jr. last November. His DAZN agreement gives him a broadcasting home, but the next opponent and an official event announcement remain the real test of its value.
“All the opponents are on DAZN. Zuffa Boxing, they offered me a ton of money. I’m thankful for that,” Haney told Chris Mannix on DAZN.
“I’m thankful for them to reach out to my team, but all the opponents are on DAZN. It’s not just about money for me. It’s about me being the best and me putting on the best fights.”
That is a reasonable explanation for choosing a platform. It is also a promise that requires action. Having potential opponents under the same broadcasting umbrella does not put their names on Haney’s record.
“I’m a legacy fighter. I love the money. The money is massive at DAZN as well. It’s great, but I need to have the opponents too to showcase my skills.”
Haney is getting paid well by his own account. The missing part is the opportunity to showcase those skills. Interviews can explain his intentions, but they cannot replace rounds, title defenses, or victories.
A unification with Liam Paro has reportedly been agreed, although an official announcement is still pending. Getting that fight scheduled would give Haney something concrete to support his comments. Until then, it remains another proposed contest following a lengthy absence.
The inactivity does not establish that Haney alone caused the delays. Negotiations require cooperation. Still, the time comes out of his career regardless of who holds up an agreement.
Prime years pass quickly. Haney can prefer DAZN and have sound reasons for doing so, but his legacy benefits when he fights. Right now, he is explaining what the platform can offer while fans wait to see it delivered.
