The midfielder has joined the Blues for the next two months on loan from Stockport County.
Camps brings plenty of League One pedigree to Brunton Park and played a big part in Wednesday’s remarkable nine-man win over Harrogate Town after coming off the bench in the first half.
It proved a dramatic introduction for the 30-year-old and Elliot is delighted to have the ex-Fleetwood Town and Rochdale man in the building after having to wait to secure his signature.
“We're getting a League One footballer,” said Elliot. “It’s as simple as that.
“You could argue – and some people did rightly argue – that we had midfielders.
“But when you get the opportunity to sign Callum Camps you don't turn it down.
“If we want to get to where we want to get to, to get in a person and a player of that experience [is important].
“Even if [Wednesday] is the only game he plays for us then it was worth doing.

“When you have the opportunity to sign players of his calibre, of his experience, you just do it.”
Camps is hoping to get plenty of first-team football with Carlisle having recently returned from a back injury that kept him out at Stockport for the second half of last season.
The midfielder’s outing in Wednesday’s 3-0 win was his first league appearance since last November, Camps having only featured in two EFL Trophy games for his parent club this season.
Asked about the time taken to bring in Camps, Elliot said: “It's been in the process for a couple of weeks now and I would have liked Callum to be in quicker.
“But there's due process, and we've got to do things to make sure it's right for the club, and I understand that.
“I'm just really pleased he's here.
“We've got to make sure we keep identifying anyone that can come in and help us, and I'm pleased he was here [for Wednesday] because if he hadn't have been it might have been a different story [after the red cards for midfielders Miguel Azeez and Harvey Bunker].
“I'm really pleased that we got it over the line and well done to Marc [Tierney, sporting director], Jacob [Blain, recruitment lead] and Tom Lawrence [chief executive] for getting that done.
“Hopefully it's a good loan for him and us and we'll see where it takes us.”
Elliot must now weigh up further involvement for Camps at Altrincham this weekend, with Carlisle at risk of losing both Azeez and Bunker to suspension should the Blues fail to get their red cards overturned.
