Despite being idle on Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs have reclaimed the No. 1 spot in our SEC football power rankings following a chaotic Week 8 slate.
When in doubt, pick Kirby Smart's squad as the conference's top team. Georgia's lone loss this season came against unranked Auburn in Week 7, but the Bulldogs' road win over Alabama provides an advantage over Will Stein and the Kentucky Wildcats, who we have as the second-best team in the league in this week's power rankings.
Arguably the scariest SEC squad to play right now resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After its loss to Kentucky, LSU's offense has clicked and put on electric performances, outscoring Mississippi State and Auburn by a combined 69-17 margin, which is why we have the Tigers as the No. 3 team in the SEC.
Texas ranks fourth, ahead of Ole Miss, after securing a thrilling 34-27 win over the Rebels in Austin over the weekend. The Alabama Crimson Tide are just outside the top five, followed by the South Carolina Gamecocks, who knocked off Tennessee on a game-winning field goal at Williams-Brice Stadium over the weekend.
The Vols' loss to Shane Beamer and company bumped them down to No. 8, ahead of the Missouri Tigers at No. 9. Behind Mizzou, the Florida Gators round out the top 10, with a massive test against Georgia approaching for Jon Sumrall and company on Saturday.
