Swansea City boss explains gesture after Blackburn Rovers

Matos acknowledged the home crowd before heading down the tunnel, leaving his players to soak up the adulation.

The head coach wanted to make sure his players took all the credit after bouncing back from a big defeat against QPR the previous weekend.

"I think after last week, they needed to have that feeling," Matos told Wales Online. "They needed to live that moment because the responsibility is always mine when we don't win.

"When we win, they need to get the feeling and that's what I wanted for them. To have the feeling. To have the connection with the fans and that's what it was.”

"We've a lot of players with really good character. A squad full of really good human beings," the head coach continued.

"I think that's the most important for us - to have these type of players that really care about where they are and really care about the team, really care about each other, really care about the club.

"That's what we try to build and when you have this kind of answer after what happened last week, you can see that part.

"For me, it was really about the performance more than the result and I think that's what I'm really pleased about - the way we did it."

Swansea sit second in the table – two points behind leaders Middlesbrough – after an impressive start to the campaign.

“It was a really good response and it was a good game. It was the way we did it, especially in the first half, when we showed desire, concentration, quality and belief,” said Matos.

“So that was really good. We were not the worst team in the world last weekend, and we are not the best team now, but somehow we are improving and we will keep on improving.

“For me, it was really about the performance more than the result – that’s what I’m really pleased about and the way we did it. The first half was a good example of what we want.

“It’s not always easy to produce that type of performance, and it’s not always easy to play so consistently for such an amount of time. But that’s also what we will always try to find.”
