Moldova will face Kazakhstan and the Faroe Islands during the next international window, as they fight for second place in Nations League C Group Three.
Negru’s selection means he will miss Swindon’s Jersey Mike’s Trophy match against Plymouth Argyle and the League Two meeting with Grimsby Town at home.
The defender received his first Moldova call-up in March. He made his debut as a substitute during a 3-2 friendly defeat by Cyprus, coming on at 3-0 down and almost helping to inspire a comeback.
Negru was not selected for the Moldova camp in September and October, but has done enough to earn his place back.
The defender said: "My parents are from Moldova, they found their way to Ireland, and I was born and raised in Ireland, but my blood is all Moldovan.
"Some of my relatives still live in Moldova, I don't go back as often, but I still have a love for the country and feel Moldovan at heart."
He explained that his first call-up followed a message sent to his mother by a Moldova representative.
Negru said: "It came about firstly as my mother got a message from the representative from Moldova, basically saying, 'Is your son willing to play for our country?'
"It was quite difficult to get the documents and things, but once I had the chance to play for them, it was a huge honour.
"It was surreal [to play for the first time], the level is a lot higher than you would expect, and the demands of representing a country and the people of the country are huge.
"It was a great step in what I want to achieve in my career."
Negru will be the only Swindon player away during this international break, and so unless Grimsby have multiple internationals, Town will have to do without their main defender for that match.
Sam Inwood was called up by Northern Ireland Under-21s last month, but a hamstring injury means he will not be selected this time.
Louis Millard will also remain with Swindon. He was not included in Benni McCarthy’s provisional Kenya squad for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa.
Millard missed the previous international camp because of injury, and has not been called back into the squad for these key matches ahead of the tournament next summer, which will partly be held in Kenya.
