Pakistan have mutually agreed to release opener Saim Ayub from their squad for the ongoing tri-series with England and Sri Lanka with Sahibzada Farhan named as his replacement.

Ayub has struggled for form in recent times, with the left-hander yet to reach double figures from three innings at the tri-series despite the fact Pakistan are unbeaten and have already qualified for Saturday's final.

Pakistan confirmed Ayub had spoken with coach Mike Hesson about his form and the pair decided it would be in his best interests to return to domestic cricket in the short-term.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirms that Saim Ayub has been released from the Men’s ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series," Pakistan confirmed via a release.

"After a conversation with the head coach, Saim requested a desire to return to domestic cricket to work on his batting form and regain confidence.

"Respecting Saim’s decision and appreciating his honest assessment of his current form, the team management and national selection committee have mutually agreed to accept this request.

"The national selection committee has subsequently named Sahibzada Farhan as Saim’s replacement for the remainder of the tri-series.

"Pakistan having qualified for the final with three consecutive wins, will face Sri Lanka in the fifth match of the tri-series at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, 27 October."

Pakistan are back in action on Tuesday in Lahore when they take on Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium.
