Highlights & Reaction as Bournemouth beat Leeds
Leeds United

AFC Bournemouth, for the first time in a decade, made it six consecutive wins on the bounce with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United at Dean Court on Saturday.

This game was won in a different way to recent victories; the high press which overwhelmed both Manchester United and Aston Villa last week was far less aggressive against Leeds United.

With the Cherries not pushing to force their opponents into errors, it was left for Leeds to do it themselves, and this duly followed as England goalkeeper James Trafford passed to Justin Kluivert, who passed it to Evanilson to open the scoring with an empty net in front of him.

Leeds rarely threatened an equaliser, but the game was wrapped up late on when Eli Junior Kroupi set up Amine Adli for the Cherries second.

With three of those six victories coming in the Premier League, the Cherries have climbed up the table to sit seventh in the top flight of English football, as attention once again turns to the UEFA Europa League this week with a trip to Prague to face Sparta on Thursday night.

After the game, AFC Bournemouth head coach Marco Rose told Sky Sports…

“We conceded a goal, then lucky us [it was disallowed], from then we grew into the game. We won a high ball and scored an easy goal but it was hard work. It was an open game. It was a difficult game and a difficult opponent. I’m happy we solved the challenge.

“He [Junior Kroupi] could be a key factor for us this season. He’s not yet 100 per cent fit but he understands the game and how he solves issues in tight situations.

“This is a guy who in the Premier League where you get space can make a difference. He worked hard today but he knows every metre to fill up his tank. He played 25 minutes today and we’re going to increase his match time more and more.”

Six clean sheets in a row and three in the last three in the Premier League, with two 2-0 wins at Dean Court and a 0-3 win in Manchester.

Today was going to be a tough game against a side who had the second-best defence record in this league going into the game.

Leeds United started off the better and dominated the opening 15 minutes or so and looked to have taken an early lead when their leading scorer Calvert-Lewin put the ball into the net, but his fifth goal was denied him as the ball had hit his hand.

The Cherries started to come into the game, and an error by Trafford allowed Kluivert to win the ball and cross for that man of the moment, Evanilson, to score his fourth goal of the season and 4 goals in the last four league games.

It wasn’t the usual Cherries flowing football today, but they held solid in defence and were rewarded four minutes into injury time when two of our substitutes were involved in the second and ‘killer’ goal.

Kroupi, gradually coming back in game time from injury, sent in a pass for Adli to score.

The majority of the 12,041 crowd, including myself, went home with a big smile

on our faces with our team 7th in the table.

Glorious. Leeds are a good side, so to win 2-0 after the run of games we’ve had is amazing. What a run. 9 hours of football without conceding. Absolutely astonishing from the entire team.

Leeds is possibly the best or certainly the most effective team we’ve faced this season. Man City, etc didn’t have their structure and refused to allow us to play. Somehow we find a way, with a bit of help from Trafford. Once they have to create, they suddenly struggle.

Funny game that. I thought Leeds were quite good tbf to them; they certainly dominated until our goal. We seemed to control the game much better after that, but it still could have gone either way. Last year they stole an undeserved point here, and today they got nothing with a much better performance.

As good as our form has been, we’ve not really gone into the last 20 minutes under pressure during this run… and as we know, we struggled with that earlier in the season. Great to see us pass that test and for the super subs to finish it off.

6 clean sheets and wins in a row.

Felt like hard work compared to games of late; felt a bit nervy in the last 10 mins until Adli scored.

7th in the league.
