Auburn is looking to pull off their second upset of the season when they travel to play the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.
The Tigers enter the game as an 11-point underdog according to BetMGM as of Friday. Like LSU, Ole Miss possesses one of the more explosive offenses in college football. Auburn's offense will have to play its best in Oxford on Saturday for a win to be possible.
Here are three offensive keys for an Auburn victory over Ole Miss.
This is a key for the Tigers each week, but this game will be even more pivotal. Against LSU, Auburn struggled to run the ball with just 66 yards on 35 carries and 1.9 yards per attempt. Auburn ranks No. 8 in the SEC averaging 165.4 yards per game, and has scored ten touchdowns on the ground. Entering week nine, Ole Miss ranks last in the SEC against the run, giving up 161.1 yards per game. In their 34-27 loss to the Texas Longhorns, Ole Miss gave up 207 yards on the ground.
This offensive key ties into the first one. Auburn cannot afford to get into a scoring match with the Ole Miss Rebels. They are sixth in the SEC, scoring 36 points per game, and the No. 2 pass offense behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. He is third in the SEC with 1,926 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Ole Miss offense will be relying on him even more without running back Kewan Lacey in the lineup. If Auburn can get the run game going with Byrum Brown, Jeremiah Cobb, and Omar Mabson they may be the best defense against Chambliss by keeping him on the sidelines.
Auburn cannot be one-dimensional in this game by just running the ball. The receivers will need to be a factor along with the passing of Byrum Brown. In the loss to LSU, Brown had just 160 yards and zero touchdowns. The receivers were not much of a factor either, and that needs to be different against Ole Miss. There is a possibility Auburn could be without Jeremiah Koger due to being listed as questionable on the SEC Student Athlete Availability Report. All eyes will be on Keshaun Singleton if that is the case. The Ole Miss pass defense is giving up 233 yards per game, so there could be some big-play opportunities for Auburn.
