Harry Kane has opened up on his Ballon d'Or nerves with the England captain insisting he has been kept in the dark as to the outcome of Monday's awards do in London.
The Englishman scored an incredible 61 goals in 51 matches across all competitions last season for German champions Bayern Munich. Bayern also won two domestic cups and reached the Champions League semi-final, losing out to eventual winners, Paris Saint-Germain.
Kane would become the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen, in 2001, if he is crowned the winner on Monday night. However, it is a close race this year with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe also in contention.
Yamal played a key role in Spain's World Cup success in the United States, and helped Barcelona win LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup, with 48 goal involvements across all competitions in 58 appearances.
Kane is the bookmakers' favourite to be crowned the world's best on Monday night but the Englishman insists he does not know the outcome of the London Palladium bash.
'They want everyone to go, all the big names there and there will be more people watching it if they don't know, so I can understand why,' he said.
'From my point of view, of course, I'd love to know to just kind of see and not have to wait throughout the whole night. But it is their decision, I can't control that. We'll have to just enjoy it and try not to stress out too much.
'I try not to think about it. Obviously it is hard not to. There are always rumours flying around and you try to stay away from it.
'Of course I am going to try and enjoy Monday night as much as possible. It is a big occasion so we will have to wait and see.'
Kane added that his wife and family are also finding the agonising wait 'stressful'.
'I think my wife would prefer to know and my family… it's very stressful for everyone.'
Kane was speaking following his goal and assist in Bayern's 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday night, in the Champions League. He took home the Player of the Match prize following his dazzling display.
The striker insists he is keen to keep his focus on his match this weekend, saying: 'I know we have another important one on Sunday before the event on Monday so that's where my focus is.'
Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga and play Freiburg this weekend.
