Michael Carrick is set to be in charge of Manchester United against Bournemouth this weekend, sources have told ESPN, as he battles to keep his job at Old Trafford.
Carrick is under mounting pressure following the disastrous 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Despite serious concerns internally about the team's form, the 45-year-old is expected to be on the touchline when United face Marco Rose's side on Sunday.
Having only signed a two-year contract in May, Carrick's long-term future remains in doubt after a run of seven games without a win and just one Premier League victory all season.
The club's hierarchy accept that if results do not turn around quickly they will be forced into a change, but there is also sympathy for Carrick's predicament.
Senior staff were left shocked at the team's performance against Como and felt that only Amad Diallo, who was introduced as a half-time substitute, emerged with any credit.
Sources have also told ESPN that there is a feeling that too many players are refusing to take personal responsibility for their own role in the team's slump.
Bruno Fernandes was substituted in the 67th minute at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium before appearing to criticise Carrick and his staff for their tactics in a post-match interview.

The United captain is the second senior player to turn his fire on club staff in as many weeks after Lisandro Martínez directly criticised director of football Jason Wilcox and the board following the 2-0 defeat to Atlético Madrid.
Martínez later issued a public apology and received a fine. Sources have told ESPN that Fernandes' comments will be assessed before a decision is made about whether to take any further action.
Carrick is set to hold his usual weekly news conference on Friday afternoon to preview Bournemouth's visit to Old Trafford.
United's first-team squad will report back for training on Friday after being given a day off on Thursday, sources have told ESPN.
