Manuel Neuer continues to struggle with a foot problem as Bayern Munich prepare for their upcoming fixtures against Magdeburg and Borussia Dortmund.
Bayern Munich are sweating over Manuel Neuer’s fitness ahead of their DFB-Pokal clash with 1. FC Magdeburg on Wednesday night.
After missing two consecutive games with a foot problem, Neuer returned for Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League last Wednesday.
However, the 40-year-old was absent again as Bayern beat Freiburg 3-1 on Sunday. Speaking after the game, Aaron Danks, who is filling in for hospitalised head coach Vincent Kompany until further notice, left Neuer’s availability for the Magdeburg clash open.
“I’m not too sure,” Danks said when asked about Neuer’s availability for Wednesday.
“He had a small aggravation in his foot. It depends on how much time that takes to settle. It could be a little bit uncomfortable for him at the moment, but I don’t think it will take too long.”
Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl told TZ that Neuer should return to training at some point this week, while also leaving his availability for the Magdeburg game in doubt.
The German champions will also be eager to have their captain fit for Saturday’s Bundesliga showdown with rivals Borussia Dortmund.
If Neuer is ruled out of either fixture, Jonas Urbig will be ready to deputise once again.
