Bayern Munich kicks off its second Frauen-Bundesliga match of the week, having just triumphed over VfB Stuttgart on Monday. Now it is a road trip for the league leaders to face sixth-placed RB Leipzig, before another short turnaround to host Real Madrid in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on Wednesday.
Canadian WNT defender Vanessa Gilles returns to the squad following her injury absence but Giulia Gwinn, Jovana Damnjanović, and Lena Oberdorf continue to be unavailable.
“Leipzig are one of those teams who play boldly from the back and are prepared to play their way out of pressure,” Bayern coach José Barcala offered in his match preview comments as captured by FCBayern.com. “At the same time, they have a great deal of variety in their game. That’s why we need to be prepared for different game situations. It will be crucial for us to identify the right moments and triggers for our pressing.
“We don’t want to defend passively, but we mustn’t lose the balance in our game either. To achieve this, everyone needs to be well organised. If we play as a cohesive unit and maintain the necessary control, we can pose challenges for Leipzig and create our own chances.”
Prediction: Bayern has enjoyed this fixture and that shouldn’t change now. Bayern takes this one, 3-0.
It’s Bayern time.
