The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction is set to take place in Kochi on October 28, with 146 cricketers in the pool and 27 available squad places across five franchises.
The mini-auction will begin at 5:30 pm IST, as teams look to complete their squads ahead of the fifth edition of the tournament, scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the auction pool comprises 119 Indian players and 27 overseas players. Of the Indian contingent, 22 are capped and 97 uncapped. The overseas list includes 14 capped and 13 uncapped players, including six from Associate Nations.
WPL 2027 auction: Team-wise purse and slots
With 63 players retained across the five franchises, teams will enter the auction with different budgets and recruitment needs.
UP Warriorz enter the auction with the largest remaining purse and the most vacancies to fill. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, have six places available but the smallest budget, with no overseas slot remaining.
The five teams have a combined remaining purse of ₹8.15 crore, with 20 Indian and seven overseas slots to fill.
WPL 2027 auction: Base-price slabs
According to Cricbuzz, players have registered at five base-price levels.
England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australia all-rounder Sophie Molineux have entered at the highest base price of ₹50 lakh.
India's G Kamalini and Kiran Navgire, along with Australia's Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen, have registered at ₹40 lakh.
The ₹30 lakh category includes established players such as Chamari Athapaththu, Grace Harris, Chloe Tryon and Sneh Rana.
WPL 2027 auction: Players to watch
Several familiar names are back in the auction pool after being released by their franchises.
These include Grace Harris, Chloe Tryon, Lizelle Lee, Alana King, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sneh Rana.
The auction also offers franchises an opportunity to recruit uncapped Indian talent, with 97 uncapped Indian players in the pool.
What the auction means for teams
With only 27 vacancies and 146 players in the pool, the mini-auction is expected to centre on targeted recruitment rather than major squad rebuilding.
UP Warriorz have the financial flexibility to pursue multiple players, while Gujarat Giants have only three vacancies to fill.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the defending champions, have five slots available, including two overseas positions. Delhi Capitals also have five vacancies, while Mumbai Indians will need to make their additions within a limited purse and an all-Indian allocation.
The final signings in Kochi will determine how the five franchises complete their squads ahead of the WPL 2027 season.
