'Watch the mighty seasiders from heaven young man' - tributes pour in for BFC fan, 16, after tragic death

“16 is far too young to be taken. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Watch the mighty seasiders from heaven young man.”

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the Fylde coast for 16-year-old Stanley Mitchell who tragically died earlier in October following a brave battle with lung cancer.

Stanley was first diagnosed with cancer in summer 2025. After a year of fighting Stanley managed to overcome the disease, but tragically, the cancer returned just four weeks ago. Following another short battle, the teenager sadly passed away on October 16.

A lifelong Blackpool FC fan, he was remembered during an emotional minute’s applause at Bloomfield Road last week. Hundreds of people across the Fylde coast have now paid tribute to the life of the ‘hilarious’ teen.

One woman wrote: “Sending so much love and strength to Stan’s family at this heart-breaking time, I know Stan's friends are missing him desperately, my son included, who would always come home after spending time with Stan and tell me how brilliant, funny and joyful he was to be around, I hope his family can take some comfort in knowing just how loved he was by his friends.”

Another added: “We will always remember him and talk about him as a really nice genuine lad. He made some great memories with my lad Harry. They had some really good times.”

A GoFundMe has now been set up to help Stan’s family through this extremely difficult time. All donations are welcomed.
